Neck pain can affect sleep, work, driving, exercise and everyday movement. Symptoms may begin after an injury or awkward movement, develop gradually with repeated activity, or occur without one obvious cause.

Because neck pain can arise from several tissues and conditions, an appropriate evaluation should guide treatment. At Surfside Chiropractic, care is based on the patient’s symptoms, health history, examination findings, comfort level and goals.

Common Contributors to Neck Pain

Neck pain may be associated with muscle or joint irritation, prolonged or repetitive positions, exercise, previous injuries, age-related changes or pain referred from another area. Stress and poor sleep can also influence how strongly pain is experienced.

Posture alone does not determine whether someone will develop neck pain. The pattern of symptoms and examination findings are more useful than labeling one position as universally “good” or “bad.”

When Neck Pain Needs Prompt Medical Attention

Seek prompt medical evaluation for neck pain following significant trauma or when symptoms include marked arm or leg weakness, loss of coordination, difficulty walking, fever, severe or unusual headache, confusion, fainting, changes in speech or vision, unexplained weight loss or rapidly worsening pain.

These symptoms do not automatically indicate a serious condition, but they require appropriate medical assessment before routine conservative treatment.

How Chiropractic Care May Help

Spinal manipulation and mobilization are conservative treatment options that may provide modest improvements in pain and function for some people with uncomplicated neck pain. Care may also include soft-tissue techniques and practical movement or exercise recommendations when appropriate.

Treatment is adapted to the patient, and lower-force options are available for those who prefer less movement or do not want a traditional hands-on adjustment. No treatment produces the same response for every patient.

What to Expect During Your Visit

Dr. Baiata will review how the symptoms began, what movements affect them and whether pain, numbness or tingling travels into the shoulder or arm. The examination may include neck and upper-body movement, joint assessment and relevant orthopedic or neurological testing.

He will explain whether chiropractic care appears appropriate and discuss the available treatment options before care begins. Progress is reassessed according to changes in pain, movement and everyday function.
