Extremity Adjustments in Atlantic Beach
Chiropractic care can address more than the spine. Stiffness or discomfort in your shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, knees, ankles or feet can affect everyday activities and the sports you enjoy.
At Surfside Chiropractic, Dr. Nick Baiata evaluates joint movement and offers extremity adjustments when appropriate as part of personalized, hands-on care.
Book online, call to schedule, or walk in during office hours. Same-day appointments are often available.
What Are Extremity Adjustments?
Extremity adjustments are controlled movements applied to joints outside the spine. The goal is to improve joint motion and help make movement more comfortable.
Treatment may involve a quick, specific adjustment or slower joint mobilization. The approach depends on the joint, your examination findings and your comfort level.
An adjustment does not mean a joint was “out of place.” It is a treatment option for certain movement restrictions—not a procedure for putting a dislocated joint back into position.
When May Extremity Adjustments Help?
Joint adjustments or mobilization may help some patients with discomfort and restricted movement. Their usefulness varies by condition, and not every painful joint needs an adjustment.
Dr. Nick may assess extremity joint movement when you experience:
-
Shoulder stiffness or difficulty reaching
-
Elbow or wrist discomfort with everyday activities
-
Hip stiffness affecting walking or exercise
-
Knee discomfort with bending or activity
-
Ankle or foot stiffness affecting movement
The first step is understanding your symptoms. Muscle, tendon, ligament, nerve and joint problems can feel similar but may require different care.
What to Expect During Your Visit
Dr. Nick will review your symptoms and injury history, assess joint movement and perform relevant orthopedic or neurological tests.
If an adjustment is appropriate, he will explain the technique before treatment. You may feel brief pressure or hear a popping sound, although a sound is not required for treatment to be effective.
Temporary soreness can occur. Tell Dr. Nick about recent injuries or surgery, osteoporosis, joint replacements, swelling or other relevant medical conditions.
If your examination suggests a fracture, dislocation, significant ligament injury or another condition requiring different care, imaging or referral may be recommended.
Joint Movement, Soft Tissue Care and Exercise
Comfortable movement depends on more than joint mobility. Strength, balance, coordination and the ability to tolerate activity matter too.
Depending on your needs, Dr. Nick may combine extremity adjustments with myofascial release, instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization (IASTM) or targeted exercise.
The goal is to help you move more comfortably and build the capacity to keep doing what you love.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can you adjust shoulders, wrists, knees and ankles?
These joints can be assessed and treated with adjustments or mobilization when appropriate. The technique depends on the joint and the cause of your symptoms.
Does every painful joint need an adjustment?
No. Some problems respond better to exercise, changes in activity, soft tissue treatment or care from another provider. Your examination guides the recommendation.
Can adjustments help after an ankle sprain?
Joint mobilization may help selected patients regain movement during rehabilitation. A recent sprain should first be evaluated for fracture, instability and other injuries. Strengthening and balance exercises are also important parts of recovery.
How many treatments will I need?
There is no fixed number for everyone. Recommendations depend on your condition, goals and response to care. Dr. Nick reassesses progress and adjusts the plan as needed.
