Thompson Drop Table Adjustments
Thompson Drop Table is a chiropractic technique that uses a specially designed treatment table with cushioned sections that lower a short distance during an adjustment. The table’s movement assists the adjustment while allowing the joint to be treated with less body movement than many traditional hands-on techniques.
How the Drop Table Works
The Thompson table contains segmented sections that can be raised slightly before treatment. During an adjustment, the selected section lowers a short distance as controlled pressure is applied.
The table’s movement reduces resistance from the treatment surface and allows the adjustment to be delivered with relatively little movement of the patient’s body. Different sections may be used when treating selected areas of the spine, pelvis or extremity joints.
When Drop Table Adjustments May Be Considered
Drop table adjustments may be incorporated into care for patients experiencing:
-
Lower-back pain or stiffness
-
Pelvic or sacroiliac discomfort
-
Neck or mid-back pain
-
Hip, shoulder or other extremity-joint concerns
-
Restricted or uncomfortable movement
-
A preference for an adjustment involving less body movement
The technique is selected after reviewing your symptoms, health history and examination findings. It may be used alone or combined with other chiropractic methods when appropriate.

What to Expect During Treatment
Before treatment, Dr. Baiata will review your symptoms and relevant health history and examine the areas affecting your comfort or movement. If a drop table adjustment is appropriate, the selected section of the table will be raised slightly while you are positioned comfortably.
During the adjustment, the table section lowers a short distance as controlled pressure is applied. You may hear the table move, but the sound comes from the table mechanism and does not indicate anything happening inside the joint. Your response will be reassessed after treatment.
