IASTM Soft Tissue Therapy in Atlantic Beach

Muscle tightness and soft tissue discomfort can make everyday movement, exercise and sports less comfortable. At Surfside Chiropractic, Dr. Nick Baiata offers instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization (IASTM) as one option within personalized chiropractic care.

Book online, call to schedule, or walk in during office hours. Same-day appointments are often available.

What Is IASTM?

IASTM is a form of soft tissue therapy that uses a smooth, handheld instrument to apply controlled pressure and gliding strokes over the skin. It is sometimes called instrument-assisted massage or muscle scraping.

Treatment focuses on soft tissues around an area of discomfort or restricted movement. The pressure and technique are adapted to your condition, sensitivity and comfort level.

How May IASTM Help?

IASTM may help reduce discomfort and improve range of motion for some patients. Results vary, and it is usually used alongside other care rather than as a complete treatment on its own.

After an examination, Dr. Nick may consider IASTM for muscle tightness or soft tissue symptoms associated with:

  • Neck, shoulder or back discomfort

  • Sports and exercise-related overuse

  • Elbow or forearm discomfort

  • Hip, thigh or calf tightness

The first step is understanding what is causing your symptoms and whether soft tissue treatment is appropriate.

What to Expect During Treatment

Dr. Nick will review your symptoms, assess your movement and discuss the treatment with you. A small amount of lotion or lubricant may be applied before the instrument is moved over the treatment area.

You may feel pressure or tenderness. Let Dr. Nick know if anything feels sharp, painful or uncomfortable so treatment can be adjusted.

Temporary redness or soreness can occur. Significant bruising is not a treatment goal. Before treatment, mention blood-thinning medications, easy bruising, skin problems or other relevant medical conditions.

Soft Tissue Therapy, Chiropractic and Exercise

IASTM addresses soft tissues, while chiropractic adjustments address joint movement. Depending on your examination, Dr. Nick may recommend either approach or combine them with targeted exercise.

The goal is to help you move more comfortably and build the strength and capacity to keep doing what you love.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is IASTM the same as Graston Technique?

IASTM is the general term for treatment using soft tissue instruments. Graston Technique is a specific branded approach within that broader category.

Does IASTM replace chiropractic adjustments?

No. They are different treatment options. Your care depends on your symptoms, examination findings and preferences.

How many treatments will I need?

There is no set number for everyone. Recommendations depend on your condition, goals and response to care. Treatment is reassessed as you progress.
